Pran-RFL Group is set to revive the long-defunct Rajshahi Textile Mill and transform it into "Barendra Rajshahi Textile Ltd" under Bangladesh Textile Mills Corporation (BTMC) through a public-private partnership.

The group has already begun trial production on the 26-acre site and plans to fully operationalise the facility within two years, investing around Tk 350 crore.

The plant will focus on fully export-oriented production of bags, shoes, and garments, and will also house a modern call centre.

At a press briefing in Rajshahi on Monday, Kamruzzaman Kamal, marketing director of Pran-RFL, highlighted the need to decentralise industrial development from the capital.

"The factory will be a sustainable green industrial park powered by solar energy and equipped with a water recycling system. Also, the project will invigorate the local economy," he said.

At present, around 1,000 locals are employed at the site, with recruitment of another 1,000 underway. The group also plans to establish a skills development centre to train workers.

Pran-RFL is already operating two other factories in Rajshahi that together employ around 1,200 people.

Senior company officials, including Touhiduzzaman, deputy general manager (PR), and Sharif Uddin Ahmed, assistant general manager of the new textile mill, were present at the event.
